SPRINGVILLE – The Springville Center for the Arts will be presenting a series of workshops in the upcoming weeks. The first will be geared toward aspiring actors followed by a workshop for artists of drawing.
The Play Study and Actor’s Workshop will study “August: Osage County,” a theatrical play by Tracy Letts. Actor and director Edwin F. Heary will lead the workshop open to new actors and seasoned veterans. This powerful and intense play will provide the platform for actors to evoke enriched character development as they search their depths in finding their most despicable representation of humanity. Ideal for beginning actors who wish to get engaged in theater, these sessions will also serve the most experienced actors.
The free workshop is open to female and male actors of all skill levels and will meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. starting Jan. 23. The programs will conclude with one stage reading on March 8 at 7 p.m.
Beginning Feb. 3, Explore Drawing will have four sessions led by retired art teacher Mary Scharf Anderson.
Participants will use pencil, charcoal, drawing pens and wash to draw from life and photos. Materials required to begin are a 2B pencil and a fine-tip felt pen. Participants should bring their own sketchbook paper if they have it, though materials will be available.
Explore Drawing will run Saturdays in February from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. The cost is $60 per student, $52 for members.
Other upcoming classes this winter and spring include oil painting, advanced watercolors, alcohol inks, booking binding and poetry. More information is at SpringvilleArts.org. Classes will meet at the Vacanti Classroom located at Springville Center for the Arts, 37 N. Buffalo St. Both workshops require registration, payment for the Explore Drawing workshop is due at registration. Call 592-9038 for more information or to register.
