The Federated Holland Garden Club held a standard flower show during the Holland Tulip Festival, on May 9 and 10. The show was held in the Brink Memorial Community Center.
Floral Design winners were: Barbara Brant, Tri-Color Award; Karen Stephens-Mace, Petite Award, Stephens-Mace was also nominated for an Eighth District Award No. 4 for Design Excellence for Petites.
Jean Burke received the Designer’s Choice Award and was nominated for an Eighth District Award No. 3 for Excellence in Design, as well as an Eighth District Award No. 5 for Design Excellence in table exhibits.
In the Horticulture Division, Christine Wheaton received the award of Horticulture Excellence for her narcissus entry and was also nominated for the T.R. Allan Memorial Award for Excellence in Horticulture. Jean Burke received the Elfin Award for her tulip and was nominated for an Eighth District No. 2 Petite Award in Excellence in Horticulture.
Award of Merit winners for their Horticulture specimens were Janice Bartoszek, tulip; Marilee Farry, helleborus and Guinea hen flower and Joan Lingenfelter, pepperomia.
Betty Maynard was awarded the Pratt Sisters Memorial Award, given for the greatest number of entries in the Horticulture Division. Maynard also received the Arboreal Award for her shadbush.
Education Awards of Appreciation were presented to Jean Burke and Christine Hausauer for their display on Blue Star Memorials Honoring Our Heroes, and P.J. Fraser for her exhibit on educating the public about National Garden Clubs, especially the Federated Holland Garden Club.
Christine Wheaton received the People’s Choice Award given in memory of Dorothy Kimball, a long-time club member.
Judges for the show were District Eight National Council of Accredited Judges.
