Order forms for the 2012 conservation tree and shrub seedling sale are available from the Erie County Soil and Water District.
The district offers many varieties of conservation trees and shrubs, wildflower seed mixes and seedling packets, which include combinations of trees and shrubs chosen to attract, feed and shelter birds and other wildlife.
There are 34 species of trees and shrubs available this year. The 1-3 year bare root seedlings, which range in size from 6 - 24 inches, are available in lots of 10 - 500. The district offers an expanded selection of 4-year-old evergreen transplants, which are more mature trees with thicker stems, more branching and more developed roots. Also, a new seedling introduction to the 2012 program is the broadleaf tree basswood.
The district also stocks marking flags, fertilizer tablets and tree shelters to help promote the success of plantings. Bluebird nest boxes can be ordered through the program and be purchased at the district office.
Order forms may be obtained at the district office at 50 Commerce Way, East Aurora (behind the post office), by calling 652-8430 or by printing the order form from the district website www.ecswcd.org. Orders are due by March 16 and pickup will be April 14 at the fairgrounds in Hamburg.
