Breast health is the focus at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital

SPRINGVILLE — The Tree of Hope is coming to the lobby of Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in October. This tree, donated by Schichtel’s Nursery, will be decorated with pink ribbons to recognize National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The ribbons can be purchased, with all proceeds’ used toward the wellness programming of the BCH imaging department. They will be sold in businesses throughout the Springville and Arcade business community.

According to Chief Technologist Lisa Smith, this is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease.

“While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease,” noted Smith. The 23-year BCH associate added that strides have been made in breast cancer awareness and treatment, referencing the new digital mammography equipment at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital as a necessary diagnostic tool in pinpointing the disease. “We remain committed to educating women to take charge of their own breast health,” Smith said.

The BCH Women’s Association has dedicated its annual fashion show, held this year on Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Springville, to furthering breast cancer awareness. Ribbons may be purchased at the event and more information about breast health will be available.
