Sardinia town board approves tax relief plan

SARDINIA — Town of Sardinia Supervisor Mary Hannon announced that the Sardinia Town Board has approved the Tax Relief Under Sardinia Taxes plan. The tax relief will give back money to property owners, to reimburse them for their school taxes.

TRUST is designed to offer up to $1,500 for any Sardinia property owner who pays school taxes in the town of Sardinia. Any property owner who pays on more than one parcel of land in the town will receive a real property tax relief toward one parcel, and will have the choice of picking which school tax bill they want to apply, for the tax relief.

In order to receive the real property tax relief, the owner, or owners of the property must fill out an application form, which will be mailed to them, and return it to the supervisor’s office at the Sardinia Town Hall, 12320 Savage Road, P.O. Box 219, Sardinia, N.Y. 14134. The application must be filled out and returned to the supervisor, within 30 days after the due date, for payment of the school taxes.

Before a check is issued, proof of timely payment of the total school tax levied must be submitted. Failure to submit a timely application, or failure to pay the school tax, on a timely basis, shall result in disqualification for the tax relief payment. After verification of the paperwork, a tax relief check will be forwarded to the property owner, via the United States mail.

Town Bookkeeper Beverly Gambino and/or the supervisor will be available, during September, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and on Tuesday evening, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

The applications may be mailed or dropped off at the supervisor’s office. For more information about the program, contact Gambino or Hannon at 496-8900 ext. 11.
