SPRINGVILLE — Bertrand Chaffee Hospital is now offering “Freedom From Smoking,” a smoking-cessation program by the American Lung Association. The program includes information on medicines to stop smoking, managing stress, avoiding weight gain, lifestyle changes to make quitting easier, developing self-image and how to stay smoke-free. The program aims to help smokers address the physical, mental and social aspects of addiction.
It was ranked the most effective smoking-cessation program, in a study conducted by the Fordham University Graduate School of Business, with up to 60 percent of participants reporting having quit by the end of the program, when used in combination with smoking-cessation medications.
In Springville, the program will be facilitated by Kathy Hebdon and is set to begin on Jan. 14. It will run through Feb, 25. Meetings will be held weekly on Tuesdays, from 6-7:30 p.m.
For more information on how to get involved in the program, call Hebdon at 592-9643.
