Educational achievement program now available

ARCADE Genesee Community College at Arcade will offer the Reaching Educational Achievement Program for adult learners.

The 16-week program will assist adults with the transition back to school, covering math, reading, writing, study and computer skills. Students will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6 9 p.m. on Jan. 22 May 16 at the Arcade campus center.

REAP is a non-graded, non-credit course. The program cost covers the costs of handouts and textbook rental.

Through REAP and the Ability to Benefit Program, students may enroll at Genesee Community College, even if they do not have a high school diploma or a general education diploma.

After they are enrolled at the college, students can earn their GEDs, while earning their associate degree under the 24-hour credit clause, which guides students through completion of the 24 credits in general education needed for all associate degrees.

Through the ATB program, students may also receive financial aid.

Program instructors have been teaching at the college for several years. Class sizes are kept small.

The REAP Program is partly funded by New York state. Students must maintain a 90 percent attendance rate. The class meets twice per week for three hours, with a different subject covered on each day.

Genesee Community College will provide the textbooks, which will need to be returned at the end of the subject, as well as other materials needed for each class. Registration for the classes may be made until Jan. 22.

For more information or to enroll in this program, contact the Arcade campus center at 585-492-5265. The center is located at 25 Edward St. in Arcade.
