MORTONS CORNERS — Mortons Corners Baptist Church will host its Celebrate a Community Christmas, a free event, on Dec. 7, 2:30-4:30 p.m. There will be door prizes, gifts and opportunities to win a pair of Sabres tickets, gift cards and more. Crafts and games will be available for children and Springville-Griffith Institute High School student and keyboard artist Mitchell Brownell will play Christmas music, for the crowd.
This year, MCBC has a new pastor, Randy Smith, who hails from North Carolina. Smith, his wife Rachel and their two children arrived at the parish in August. Randy Smith grew up in Virginia and graduated from Liberty University, after transferring from Tennessee Temple University. He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and will soon be completing his Master of Divinity from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. The pastor said that he and his family love the people and culture of the area and are glad to be back to raise their family, “teaching Jesus Christ and his word” at their church and serving the community.
Smith is also a member of the Mortons Corners Volunteer Fire Company and he said he also enjoys the outdoors, especially fishing.
The Corner, purchased and renovated about two years ago, is located at the corner of Route 39 and Mortons Corners Road in the former KW’s Bar. Plans for its use include a family and youth outreach and multi-purpose building complementing the MCBC, which is located a few hundred yards north of The Corner.
