SCENe programs for 2013

SPRINGVILLE — Springville Concord Elder Network Coordinator Virginia Krebs announced the SCENe programming for early 2013.

The 2012 SCENe programs drew nearly 1,500 people, an increase of more than 200 percent, from 2011.

Beginning Jan. 23 and running through the end of February, John Shaw and Jean Moncrieff will host card and board games, from 1 – 3 p.m. in the community room at Love INC, located at 64 East Main St. in Springville.

At 10 a.m. on Friday Jan., 25, Feb. 22 and March 22, Mary Cline will host a “Koffee Klatch.” This month, the “klatchers” will share winter pastime memories, also at Love INC.

SCENe Program Chair Jackie Shaw announced that, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 12, certified trainer Kenneth Dahlgren will offer a six-week course on diabetes self-management in the First Presbyterian Church Hall.

“This is a very successful program that we offered through our partner, Healthy Community Alliance, last year,” Shaw said.

A Blue Cross Blue Shield educational program titled “Healthy Weight Management” will be held Feb. 25 at 10:30 a.m. at Love INC.

Krebs described the local program as “a senior center without walls. Last year, 18 partners offered programming, office and meeting space, materials and financial support. For instance, Love INC recognizes the scope of senior needs and generously gives us a home-base. The town of Concord, village of Springville, Springville-Griffith Institute schools, First Presbyterian Church and others help us reach out to area seniors.”

Krebs added that the programs, information and support services offered by SCENe are open to senior citizens in Concord, Springville and their border communities.
