MACHIAS—The Cattaraugus County Museum will host the first of a new season of Civil War related programs on Thursday, June 12.
Earl McElfresh will give a talk entitled “Mapping the Civil War: Lee vs. Sherman.” McElfresh, an Olean native, graduated from Olean High School and studied English and history at St. Lawrence University. After working for 20 years in his family’s insurance business McElfresh, always fascinated with the Civil War and maps, decided to turn his interests into a business, creating McElfresh Map Company, LLC in 1993. He is also the author of the book “Maps and Mapmakers of the Civil War.”
The talk will take place at 7 p.m. at the Cattaraugus County Museum and will be held, weather permitting, outdoors. Some seating will be available, but feel free to bring a chair or blanket. This program is free and open to the public.
