Springville Journal editorial: Welcome to 2013!
Monday January 7, 2013 | By:Jessie Owen | Editorial
SPRINGVILLE — It is now officially 2013, a year many people – be they Mayans, bandwagon followers or end-of-the-world enthusiasts – believed we would never see. For 365 days, we will be living in a number some individuals, not including Taylor Swift, see as a bad omen, a combined pair of digits they would prefer to eliminate.
The year is fresh and new, relatively unscathed by sadness, hurt or disappointment. It offers a hope for experiences, bright beginnings and good news.
I hope that all of our readers can look back on 2012 with a sense of pride in their accomplishments and peace in what their fortunes brought them.
We thank you for supporting your local paper through a year in which we experienced many changes, including the conversion from a subscription-based paper to a free publication. Thank you for your encouragement and support. We look forward to another wonderful year, working with all of you.
This year, we brought on board some new sports writers who, we believe, have already served Springville well. We applaud them for their untiring work and their dedication to the young people in this community. They give your kids a voice and share their many accomplishments with our readers.
Our paper is never going to be finished growing and, we hope, improving. We ask for your continued support and patience, as we report on the issues that are important to our Springville family and bring you up-to-date on local news, sports and features.
We wish you the best, during 2013. Nobody knows what will lie ahead, but we have 360 days left, to find out. May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back and may the sun shine warm upon your face.
