CROP Hunger walk hoofs it on Oct. 6

SPRINGVILLE Harvesting Hope is the theme for the 2013 CROP Walk being held in Springville on Oct. 6. Registration for the walk begins at 12:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church at 474 East Main St.

The walk is a community-wide effort to support hunger relief in the community, nation and the world. The first walk was held in 1969 in Bismark, N.D. Springville has not had a walk since 2001.

George Richert, Springville resident and WIVB newscaster, is the honorary chair of the Springville CROP Walk. Wendy Cocca, executive director of Love INC., is serving as the local walk chair. Representatives from community groups and local churches are participating in either the 1-mile or 3-mile walk, to raise money for hunger relief. Twenty-five percent of proceeds will remain in the community.

Anyone interested in donating or registering for the walk may visit, or contact one of the churches in Springville, Faith United Church of Christ in Boston or the Love INC office at 592-3761.
