Community Education Foundation to support SYI and Boys & Girls Club

SPRINGVILLE — Every year, since 2008, the Springville-Griffith Community Education Foundation has selected a local organization to receive funds raised at its annual wine tasting and silent auction. This fall, the organization is making a change from its support of one organization, by supporting two groups with the proceeds of the fifth annual event, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10.

In the spring, volunteers from Springville Youth Incorporated and the Boys & Girls Club of Springville presented proposals to the foundation’s board, outlining how they believed their organizations would make use of the funding.

The SGCEF Board said that it anticipates providing $15,000 each to these groups, following the Nov. 10 event.

SYI members said they will to put their funding toward the installation of playground equipment in the village of Springville. The Boys & Girls Club of Springville will use its funding to support a learning center room in its new facility on Maple Avenue.

Tickets are available from any SGCEF Board member or by contacting 592-2296 or support@sgfound.org, after Oct. 8. The event will take place Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. at Springville Health and Fitness, located at 243 West Main St. in Springville.

In August, the foundation held a fundraiser in support of warmup uniforms and software for the Springville-Griffith Institute athletic department. In 2011, it provided $25,000 to the Springville Center for the Arts for capital improvements and the year before, it gave $25,000 toward the purchase of a digital mammography machine for Bertrand Chaffee Hospital. The foundation has also provided grants and mini-grants to classroom teachers at Springville-Griffith Institute Central School District and community organizations.

The board seeks sponsors, auction baskets, raffle items and volunteers. For more information, contact Michael Hannon at 592-2296 or email support@sgfound.org.
