HOLLAND — The Blue Star Memorial Marker Program has been in existence through the garden club movement for more than 65 years.
The National Garden Club Inc. is committed to placing Blue Star Memorial markers on highways and byways, in honor of the nation’s Armed Forces.
The town of Wales is interested in erecting three Blue Star Memorial markers throughout the town. The first one would be placed in the cemetery at the corner of Route 16 and Warner Hill Road in South Wales.
The second would be in Hunter’s Creek Park, which is now named for local hero, Mark Rademacher, who was killed in action during the invasion of Grenada in 1983. The last marker would be placed in the Veterans’ area next to the Wales Town Hall on Route 20A.
The Federated Holland Garden Club is also interested in putting a Blue Star Memorial marker in the veterans’ area of the Holland Cemetery on Route 16 in Holland.
The club is looking for donations for this project.
If anyone has a relative or friend who has been in the military, and would like to honor them with a contribution in his or her name, contact Chris Hausauer of the Holland Garden Club at 537-9335.
