Sardinia society hosts open house April 28

SARDINIA — On April 28, the Sardinia Historical Society will be holding its annual open house at the Sardinia Meeting House, located at 12070 Savage Road in Sardinia. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for tours of the building and museum and then at 7 p.m., Michael Keene will present a program about the orphaned and homeless children in the 1800s titled, “Abandoned – the untold story of orphan asylums.” Keene will tell the story of the 30,000 orphaned and abandoned children that roamed New York City and the formation of the orphan train movement, which endeavored to rescue and liberate those children.
The Sardinia Meeting House, built in 1829 as a baptist church, is on the state and National Register of Historical Places and is in the process of being restored. The Sardinia Historical Society was founded in 1973.
