Author to speak at Cattaraugus County Museum

MACHIAS — The first event of the summer-long Civil War series will take place at the Cattaraugus County Museum, 9824 Route 16 in Machias, on Saturday, May 18, at 1 p.m.
Author Valgene Dunham will discuss and sign copies of his book “Allegany to Appomattox: The Life and Letters of Private William Whitlock of the 188th N.Y. Volunteers.”
Dunham was born in Jamestown and raised in Lorain, Ohio. He studied biology at Houghton Academy and Syracuse University and taught at the State University of New York at Fredonia, Western Kentucky University and Coastal Carolina University.
Weather permitting, the talk will take place outside, so attendees may bring a chair or blanket. Indoor accommodations will be made, in the event of inclement weather.
