SPRINGVILLE — All of the excitement of thoroughbred horseracing comes back to Springville on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m. as Springville Youth, Inc. hosts “A Night at the Derby” at the Springville Volunteer Fire Deptartment, located at 405 West Main St., in Springville. This event is an audience-participation fundraiser that will feature eight races, featuring actual, videotaped races of real thoroughbreds going head to head, projected on large screens.
Actual race announcers call each race. Attendees will have the chance to “wager” on their favorite horses and cheer those ponies on to victory. Those who visit the event will have the chance to receive prizes, based on the number of persons selecting the winning horse, in each race. The final race will also have horses up for auction, that will give participants the chance to compete with winners of the first seven races, for a chance to win the weekend getaway grand prize.
Tickets for the event can be purchased at Anything Printed on Main Street; Emerling Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram on Main Street and Emerling Ford on Route 219 in Springville. Each admission gets race-watchers entry into the “track” and light snacks, that will be provided by Julie’s Pizzeria. Beer, wine and soft drinks will also be available. The evening will also feature music and a silent auction. You may also purchase tickets online at www.syionline.org.
Proceeds from this event are going to be used for upgrading the equipment at the community pool facility. This event is sponsored by Creighton, Johnsen, & Giroux; Haddad Agency, Inc; Emerling Ford; InTomes Technical Services Inc.; Emerling Chrysler; Dodge; Jeep and Ram, Markham-Bixby Agency Inc. and Hannon Landscaping and Excavating. If any residents wish to help with the event, sponsor a silent auction item, or if have further questions, contact Nils Wikman at 592-9531.
