Bertrand Chaffee Hospital, Arcade Chamber to host Community Wellness Day

ASHFORD — Bertrand Chaffee Hospital and the Arcade Chamber of Commerce have teamed up to host a community wellness day in Arcade on Saturday, Sept. 22.

Three events will take place: a 5K run at 10 a.m., a family fun walk at 1 p.m. and a health and wellness fair from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Activities, sponsored by the Arcade Lions Club, will be set up at the Arcade Fire Hall on North Street.

There is an entry fee for the 5K run. Prizes will be awarded to the top five male and female finishers. The race will start at the fire hall at 10 a.m. and end at the same location, after following a route through the village. The health and wellness fair will open at the fire hall at 11 a.m. More than 25 booths will feature blood pressure screenings by BCH and the Wyoming County Health Department, vision screening by the Arcade Lions Club, Yellow Dot information from the New York State Sheriff’s Association, flu shots from Rite Aid and Walgreens and more.

Bertrand Chaffee Hospital Clinical Cardiologist Dr. Thomas Smith will speak on “Your Healthy Heart – Risk Factors for Coronary Artery Disease,” at noon. There is no charge to attend.

The family fun walk will begin at 1 p.m. at the fire hall. A self-guided, 1-mile walk will take participants past the village’s historical locations. A brochure will outline sights for walkers to see on their way, with stickers’ available at locations on the walk for participants to collect. The children will be able to turn in their filled walk cards for prizes.
