EAST CONCORD — The East Concord Fire Department will be hosting its annual truck and tractor pull championships on Sunday, July 28.
This annual event was originally scheduled for June 1, but was postponed, due to rain. “Having the rain-out was really frustrating, back in June,” said Event Director Mark Wagner. “We had some bad luck with the original date, but we’re hoping for better weather, this next time around. As long as the weather cooperates, we’re expecting a large crowd for the pull.”
The festivities are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will include Western New York Pro Farm Pullers, as the featured trucks. The event will include LL Super Stocks, Pro Street diesel trucks, heavy and light pro farm, work stock diesel trucks, LL pro farm and semi trucks.
“We have a good group of guys coming down,” Wagner said. “We’re really excited to have WNY Pro Farm Pullers as part of the competition, this year.”
He added, “These guys have a lot of experience and do a lot of pulls, throughout the year. We’re fortunate to have been able to book them for our pull, because they travel all over New York state. [It] should be an exciting night and it will be capped off with our open 4-by-4 stock truck competition.”
The WNY Pro Farm Pullers began offering their equipment and services 10 years ago, under Club President Mark Gabel of Springville.
Geoff O’Brien is in his first year as club president and said that his organization is always excited about upcoming events. “We pride ourselves on putting on a good show for the audience,” he said. “We’ll bring over 60 vehicles to an event and try to fit it into about four or five hours. We try to put on a fast-paced, action-packed show, every time out.”
There is an admission fee for adults. Kids younger than 10 get in for half price and children younger than 5 will be admitted for free. Admission will also be free for those who purchased tickets for the original June 1 pull. Parking is also free.
The pull will include festival seating. No carry-ins will be permitted.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, Italian sausage, pulled pork, fried dough and french fries are some of the food choices that will be on hand. Water, soda and beer will also be available.
“We try to make it as affordable of an event as we can,” Wagner said. “Most events like this cost around 15 or 16 bucks to get in, no matter how old you are. We think we’re doing our best to get as many people out to the event as possible.
“We want it to be a family environment, so that people can bring their kids to enjoy the action,” he added. “The more people we can get up on that hill, the better. We want families to come out together and check out the event.”
The pull will be held at the East Concord Fire Department grounds, located at 9497 Genesee Road in East Concord. For more information about the event, visit www.eastconcordfiredept.com
