Set your clocks back an hour on Sunday

Daylight saving time will end at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3 and resume at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 9.

The International Association of Fire Chiefs and Energizer has reminded homeowners to also use this time to change batteries in all smoke alarms.

According to that organization, 38 percent of fatal fire injuries occur in homes that do not have working smoke alarms and 24 percent occur in homes in which at least one smoke alarm fails to operate, due to dead or missing batteries.

“On average, families have less than three minutes from the time the first smoke alarm sounds to escape a fire,” said the IAFCE. “Working smoke alarms provide the early warning and critical extra seconds needed to escape and cut the risk of dying in home fire structures in half.”
