SPRINGVILLE — The Healthy Community Alliance has launched its diabetes prevention program, for anyone 18 years of age or older, at-risk or diagnosed with pre-diabetes, beginning May 1 in Springville and Gowanda.
Co-sponsored by the Springville Concord Elder Network, classes in Springville will meet on Thursdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Hulbert Library of Concord, located at 18 Chapel St. in Springville.
The program will help participants learn about and adopt the healthy eating and physical activity habits that have been proven to reduce the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes.
The 12-month, group-based program consists of 16 core sessions conducted weekly in community-based settings, work sites or healthcare facilities. Participants may continue with monthly maintenance sessions.
Residents may speak to their healthcare providers about risk for diabetes or to request a diabetes screening.
Interested participants may call the Healthy Community Alliance at 532-1010 or SCENe at 592-7599, to find out more about the program.
