S-GI students to play in all-state festival

Grace Flier and Dan Rothman

SPRINGVILLE — Two music students from Springville-Griffith Institute High School have been accepted into the New York State School Music Association Conference All-State Music Festival. Dan Rothman, a senior, will be playing bass clarinet in the festival wind ensemble and Grace Flier, a junior, will be playing violin in the festival string orchestra.

These students were accepted as a result of their performances at the NYSSMA solo festival in May. The festival will be held from Dec. 5-8 in Rochester, N.Y. The Conference All-State festival includes the highest-scoring senior high musicians in New York state.

The festival includes a concert band, wind ensemble, string and full orchestras, choirs and jazz ensembles. Each ensemble rehearses with a music teacher and conductor, and performs in a concert at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, at the end of the festival.
