Local winners at the Erie County Fair

SPRINGVILLE — Local winners at the Erie County Fair in Hamburg included:

Demolition derby: George Bealer of Boston placed third in the bus derby; Bryan Gunsolus of Springville was an alternate in heat two of the car derby; Ken Harvey of East Otto was the champion in heat four of compact cars; Gunsolus placed first in the heat five championship round.

On Firefighters Day, Springville placed first as best appearing fire company 5 – 10; Chaffee-Sardinia placed first and North Boston placed fourth in best appearing fire company 11 – 20; Machias fire company placed first in best appearing firefighter color guards; Machias also placed second in best appearing men and women marching units.

Joanne Hoffman of Springville took second prize in single crust pies.

In the fair’s “Wild About Hair” hair competition, Root 39 Salon of Springville took first place and the Style Club Salon of Springville received the People’s Choice Award.

In the poultry show, Richard Hare of Springville received grand champion large chicken, reserve grand champion bantam chicken; reserve grand champion landfowl, best trio of large chickens, best in American Class and best in rose comb clean legged bantam.

Sarah Bowdish of Springville received reserve grand champion goose and best in lightweight geese; Olivia Berenson of Colden received best in continental (Polish) classes and best in all other combs clean legged bantam classes and MaryBeth Witherow of Colden received best in all other standard breeds (miscellaneous) classes.

The Erie County Fair was held Aug. 8 – 15 in Hamburg.
