Lexi Blesy of Springville is doing her part to raise awareness and encourage additional participants in the Clover Patch Kids 4-H Club. Lexi raised the grand champion market lamb at the Cattaraugus County Fair (pictured), “Billy Baa Joe,” as her 2011 market project. Her lamb weighed 131 pounds and was purchased by Gramco Inc. at the fair’s market auction.
Lexi, who has been a member of 4-H since she was 5, when she joined as a Clover Bud, raises lambs that are born from her own flock. She also raised a pig this year and has shown a dairy steer.
Saying that 4-H has allowed her to meet new people, have fun and do something like “raising a pig and training them to work with you,” Lexi added, “It’s just something you won’t normally do if it wasn’t for 4-H.”
She, along with Club Leader Lisa Heiler, is inviting area kids to find out more about joining Cattaraugus County’s 4-H Club. For more information, call 699-2377 ext. 121.
