Concord VFW Post helps Eagle Scout project

FOR A GOOD DEED – VFW Post 5260 Charter Member Bill Weismantel presented $250 to Jim Oatman, for his Eagle Scout Project.
SPRINGVILLE — The Felton-Burns Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5260 recently donated $250, in support of Jim “J.P.” Oatman’s Eagle Scout Project. Oatman is a Life Scout with Troop 524 in Springville.

The Scout’s planned project is a new shelter at the rest area near the north side of the Route 219 high-level bridge, over Cattaraugus Creek. The new 12-by-20-foot shelter will eventually replace the three, current shelters.

Oatman said that his interest in doing this project arose because the current shelters are in poor condition and present a safety hazard. “Visitors traveling north into Springville utilize the rest area, to take a break, and the new shelter will be a postive reflection and welcome mat to the area,” he said.

After Oatman presented and discussed his project with the members of the post, at a recent meeting, he received approval for the proposal.

Bill Weismantel, a charter member of the post, presented the money and recalled how he helped build the original shelters for the rest area.
