HAMBURG — The Fairgrounds Festival of Lights teamed up with Western New York United to honor students who have won the 2014 Drug Free New Year Art and Poetry Contest.
Students from throughout Western New York submitted original pieces of art and poetry that demonstrated a commitment to remaining drug free. A ceremony with members of local, county and state law enforcement members took place on Dec. 6 on the Hamburg fairgrounds to recognize these students.
The ceremony and press conference was held in the Marketplace Building at the fairgrounds, located on McKinley Parkway in Hamburg.
Three students from Colden Elementary School submitted winning entries: In the K-4 poetry contest, Carissa Kerkendall received an honorable mention; in the K-4 art contest, Ella Wierzba placed third and Hunter Runser received an honorable mention.
