SPRINGVILLE — Jason Heiler of Springville attended the National Young Scholars Program at Villanova University in Pennsylvania, in July.
The National Young Scholars Program is an interactive program with a stated goal to unleash the learning potential within the nation’s most outstanding third, fourth and fifth grade students, each of whom have been nominated by a teacher. Jason was nominated by fourth grade teacher Phil Feraldi.
Jason chose to take part in the crime scene investigation program. He learned about handwriting evaluation, DNA testing and applied science-based detective skills, using chemistry concepts to solve crimes and develop strategies to unlock clues, in a fictional case.
In addition to the CSI course, all students participated in the leadership course.
The concepts and skills introduced lay the groundwork for growth and personal development in five leadership areas: teambuilding, character development, communication, problem-solving and goal setting.
Jason is the son of Lisa Blesy Heiler and Scott Heiler of Springville.
