Local players compete in basketball all-star game

SPRINGVILLE — The Boys & Girls Club of Holland hosted a fifth- and sixth-grade all-star game on Jan. 29.

The game showcased to players representing the Boys & Girls Club of Springville.

Eric Pruitt, a fifth-grade student at Colden Elementary School, and Austin Boies, a fifth-grade student at Springville Elementary School, played for the team that included all-stars from Boys & Girls Clubs in Lancaster and Depew.

Their team played against a squad of all-stars that represented Boys & Girls clubs from East Aurora, Elma/Marilla and Holland.

Pruitt scored 2 points, grabbed three rebounds and had two steals. Boies also had 2 points and played defense, throughout the evening.

Both teams put on a shooting clinic, combining for more than a dozen 2-pointers, throughout the contest.

With the game tied at 49 at the end of regulation, the all-stars went into sudden-death overtime, in which Springville/Lancaster/Depew had the game-winning shot, off a lob pass out of an in-bounds play, under the opponent’s basket.

Pruitt is the son of Melanie and Michael Pruitt, of West Falls.

Boies is the son of Katy and Marc Boies, of Glenwood.
