BOCES students bring home the gold at SkillsUSA

ELLICOTTVILLE — SkillsUSA club members from Cattaraugus-Allegany Board of Cooperative Educational Service’s Ellicottville Career Technical Center recently participated in the 2013 SkillsUSA New York Leadership and Skills Championships, held in Syracuse, on April 24 – 26.

SkillsUSA is a national technical and vocational club that emphasizes technical excellence, character and community service. Springville-Griffith Institute senior Brandon Bryniarski placed first, in the technical drafting competition, and will be advancing to the national championships held in Kansas City, at the end of June. Bryniarski is a senior at S-GI and is in the Project Lead the Way Program at the Ellicottville BOCES Center.

The student said he plans to attend Alfred State College in the fall, to study electrical engineering. He has been awarded the Excellence in Education Scholarship, for his academic achievements.

Steven Durandetto placed third in the cabinetmaking competition.

Durandetto is a senior at West Valley Central School and is enrolled in the building technology program at the Ellicottville center. He said he plans to attend college in the fall, to study engineering.
