West Valley student named youth citizen of the week

WEST VALLEY — Executive Director of the Cattaraugus County Youth Bureau Dr. Anthony Evans announced that West Valley Central School senior Dylan Westfall is this week’s featured Youth Citizen Award recipient. The student is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Westfall.

Dylan Westfall is a member of the West Valley Volunteer Hose Company, for which he has completed more than 123 hours of state-certified training. In addition to his duties as a volunteer firefighter, he also assists the ambulance crew. He is the youngest member to have completed Firefighter I training for the West Valley Volunteer Fire Department.

Westfall has served as a member of the West Valley Central School Student Council and participated in Students Against Destructive Decisions. He has played basketball, soccer, football and baseball. He was named the WVCS Athlete of the Year in 2012, was chosen for the all-star baseball team twice and received a Most Improved Team Member Award, for basketball.

He maintains honor roll grades and received the Outstanding Student Award for board of cooperative education service building technology.

Westfall does woodworking, hunts, golfs and plays pool. He said that he hopes to become a professional firefighter, in the future.

The Cattaraugus County Youth Bureau is accepting nominations for Youth Citizen Awards. Eligible youths must be residents of Cattaraugus County and be in their senior year of high school.
