Morgan Green named youth citizenship award winner

MACHIAS — Executive Director of the Cattaraugus County Youth Bureau Dr. Anthony Evans announced that Morgan Green is a Youth Citizenship Award winner.

Green lives in Machias with her parents, Lisa and Robert Green Jr. She is a senior at West Valley Central School.

Morgan Green participated in the West Valley Central School mentoring program, throughout high school, and currently tutors younger students. She has been involved in fundraisers for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundations, during the past seven years. She is involved with her church’s volunteer activities and served as an aide and teacher for a Bible school, for the past four years.

The student has been a member of the International Connections Club and National Junior Honor Society. She played the right half back position on her school’s soccer team for six years and was also a cheerleader and member of the bowling team.

Green played the alto saxophone for eight years. She performs in the school’s concert, marching and jazz bands. She has received winning scores in solo festival performances and played in the Cattaraugus All County band for six years. While attending Fredonia State music camp, Green earned a place as first chair for alto sax.

The student has maintained honor roll status for five years and was recognized by her school for a three-year perfect attendance rate.

Green said that she hopes to combine her love of music and helping others, when pursuing a degree in music therapy at Fredonia State University, next year.

Nominations are being accepted for Youth of the Week Award candidates for Cattaraugus County residents who will graduate from high school during the 2012 – 2013 school year.
