The Sardinia Saddlers 4-H Club, with Leader Jennifer Barber of Blakestone Stables, participated in 4-H youth development activities at the Erie County Fair.
Callan Barber, Jenny Bockhahn, Leah Bockhahn, Amy Breslin, Halie George, Brooke Hughes and Cora Matthewson, along with several parents, volunteered in several shifts to man the 4-H café for a day and serve as 4-H building ambassadors.
Barber and Brianna Klubek received blue ribbons for participating in the table setting exhibit, and Klubek’s exhibit was selected to be displayed at the state fair. An additional seven blue ribbons and four red ribbons were also received by Barber, Stephanie Densmore, Hughes and Caroline Kolasny for their entries in a variety of 4-H activities, including sewing, fine arts, home furnishings, photography and drawing.
In the horse arena, members Barber, Breslin, Densmore, Amanda Eckam, George, Hughes, Klubek, Kolasny, Courtney Livecchi, Hannah Lukeman and Matthewson participated in a variety of performance events in both the English and western divisions as well as gaming classes, receiving multiple ribbons in these events.
Breslin, Densmore and Matthewson received grand champion awards in the novice, walk/trot English and walk/trot western divisions, respectively. Kolasny was awarded reserve champion in the walk/trot English division. Lukeman was awarded grand champion for overall showmanship as well as reserve champion in the junior western and game divisions. Additionally, Kaitlyn Bennett, Jenny Bockhahn and Leah Bockhahn all helped secure fourth place for the club for the stable management competition.
