SPRINGVILLE — The American Legion Department of New York Concord Post No. 431 is conducting interviews to identify aspirants to attend the upcoming Boys’ State Conference. The event will be held from June 27-July 3 at the State University of New York at Morrisville.
Boys’ State is a program of the American Legion, developed from the concept that youth should be offered a better perspective of the practical operation of government and that the individual is an integral part and commensurately responsible for the character and success of government.
Boys’ State is classified as a leadership action program, wherein qualified male high school juniors participate in a governments course designed to develop a working knowledge of the structure of government, and to impress upon them the fact that their government is what they make it. It is operated on a two-party system, on the basis of the political government organization as it exists in New York state at all levels, from local municipalities to the state.
The American Legion Post No. 431 will assume the responsibility for all incurred expenses, including transportation. For more information, contact Boys’ State Chairman Ray Hubert at 592-2297 or inform the students services department at Springville-Griffith Institute as to interest in Boys State.
