Elliott Tessmer

SPRINGVILLE — Springville-Griffith Institute junior Elliott Tessmer is participating in Youth Leadership Erie County, a program offered by Leadership Buffalo.

Youth Leadership Erie County is a nine-month leadership enrichment program for high school sophomores and juniors, throughout Erie County.

The curriculum’s stated goal is to build a foundation of “leadership skills, an awareness of community, an appreciation for diversity and a commitment to community service.”

Students must apply for and be accepted into the program.

Tessmer is one of 49 students who gathered for an overnight opening retreat at Cradle Beach Camp in August.

The group will take monthly field trips to locations like the Erie County Holding Center, City Hall, the Larkin Center and Roswell Park. The students will also participate in a community service project.

The program will culminate with a graduation ceremony in June.

Tessmer is the captain of his school’s varsity cross-country team and the varsity swim team. He is the son of Dave and Peggy Tessmer of Collins.
