Local boy brings home silver medal in WorldSkills

WORLD-CLASS COMPETITORS — Springville local Jacob Wozniak (right) competed in the WorldSkills Americas competition in Bogota, Columbia.
SPRINGVILLE  — Jacob Wozniak, of Springville, beat out competitors from 20 countries to bring home a silver medal in cabinetmaking at the WorldSkills Americas competition, held April 1-6 in Bogotá, Columbia.

Wozniak was one of two World Team members that SkillsUSA sent to South America, along with their technical experts, to represent the United States. WorldSkills International supports vocational education by providing a means of exchange and comparison of world-class competency standards, in the industrial trades and service sectors.

A graduate of Cattaraugus-Allegany Board of Cooperative Education, Wozniak further developed his skills while a student in instructor Terry Fuller’s building technology class at the BOCES Career and Technical Education Center at Ellicottville.
