Soup contest winners announced

Editor:

On Sunday, March 2, at St. Johnís Church in Cattaraugus, folks braved another day of Arctic temperatures to warm themselves with a variety of savory chili and steaming bowls of soup.

Winners in the chili category in first, second and third place, respectively, included Shannon Coolidge, with white bean chicken chili; Dan Goss, with sweet and spicy chili and Walter Gunther, with bean and burger chili.

Receiving the top three votes in the soup category were Carol Lerminiaux, with chicken corn chowder; Edna Booth, with beautiful beef barley soup and Darlene Sinn, with winner, winner, chicken dinner soup.

A portion of the $500 raised will benefit the many wonderful programs of the Cattaraugus Free Library. The remainder of the proceeds will fund local missions of the church.

The members of St. Johnís Church wish to thank everyone who turned out to support this event and gave so generously. It is their prayer that the blessing they gave be returned to them a hundred-fold!
