In March of this year, an exciting, innovative program began. In collaboration with Springville-GI, SCENe is offering computer classes, for senior citizens, at no cost to them.
The classes, given twice weekly are taught by Mr. Nils Wikman of the GI faculty, with assistance from SCENe volunteers, as well as the bright, young minds of the senior students from the National Honor Society.
In the program, known as Senior-to-Senior, participants learn about the intricacies of the computer world, with one-on-one help from the students.
As a participant in the program, which includes citizens with varied abilities and concerns, I have learned much more than the operating tools of the computer.
It has been a marvelous experience, seeing the compassion and consideration of the young students, who are guiding the men and women of a distant generation.
As one of the girls commented to me, these kids were born in the computer age and their kind and respectful manner is indeed a credit to the school and their parents.
I am most grateful to Mr. Wikman and our school for allowing this program and to the lovely young men and women, who have made this such a pleasant endeavor. Thank you!!!
