It was touch and go weather-wise for the 52nd annual Springville Pageant of Bands, but the rains held off and the pageant was a huge success.
The Pageant of Bands committee thanks all the generous supporters of the this year’s Springville-Griffith Institute/Kiwanis Pageant held in May. This year’s pageant included jazz ensemble, concert band, color guard, percussion and parade competitions. The awards ceremony was held immediately after the parade at Pop Warner Field.
The Kiwanis Club has joined with Springville-Griffith Institute over the past 52 years to help bring to Springville one of New York state’s longest running band pageants. Generous community support is an integral part of the pageant and has allowed it to continue this many years. The combined efforts of the S-GI music department with Joe Gervase at the baton, the S-GI High School students who help coordinate much of the event, service organizations (such as Kiwanis) and dedicated community sponsors all come together to allow this musical event to continue.
Our sincere appreciation goes out to this year’s trophy sponsors: Haddad Agency, Main Street Pizza, Springville Hardware, Dr. Scott G. Nachbar Veterinarian, Joylan Theatre, Springville Mfg. Co., Witter-Davis Furniture, Metro Kirsch Real Estate, Landscaping and Excavating by Millers, Springville Veterinary Services, Slippy’s Collision, McDonald’s of Springville, Springville Pediatrics, Wendel’s Poultry Farm, Julie’s Pizzeria, Anything Printed, Springville Animal Hospital, Tim’s Auto, Springville Eye Care, LLC and Concord Land Realty. We thank these sponsors for their generosity.
The following area organizations, businesses and individuals also provided support: Emerling Ford-Mercury and Slippy’s Collision provide the vehicles for the parade judging platform; Suzanne Manchester, Kyle Manchester, Keith Ploetz, Barry Decker, John Argbogast, Alan Manchester, Denny Neureuther, John Mayerhoff, Mel Skide, Lyle Emerson, Corvettes of Buffalo and Emerling Chrysler all helped to provide the beautiful cars used for transporting pageant dignitaries and band queens. Flowers for the band queens were donated by S&N/Eileen’s and Joyce Manchester helped with flower arrangements. The S & S Sign Shop provided the vinyl signs for each of the queen’s cars. The American Legion Concord Post 431 led the parade with their color guard unit and American flag. The Springville police and fire departments provided support during the entire event.
We would also like to give a much deserved thank you to Kiwanis members, Key Club and Aktion Club for making the food court a smoothly running machine. A “special “ thank you goes to Kiwanian Mike Pendel who has been the co-chairperson of the pageant since 2001. With his dedication and great planning, the pageant will continue to go strong!
Supported by the GI Music Department, the Kiwanis Club of Springville and a broad base of community sponsors, the Springville Pageant of Bands continues as a fine musical tradition of our community. Visit our “Springville Pageant of Bands” Facebook page during the year and plan to visit us again next year in May 2015 for the 53rd annual pageant.
