On a recent February evening, my senses took a trip north to a land of a green bays, yellow cheese and white ice; however, my feet never left the area.

The Springville Center for the Arts’ production of “Guys On Ice,” an ice fishing musical comedy, is a breath of fresh, albeit frozen, air. Brought to life by locals Dave Danielson, Keith Cordaro and Mike Baronich, the hapless trio of would-be walleye wranglers welcomed the audience into their one room, wood-fire warmed, mobile man cave on ice for a few hours of fish stories, corny jokes, home-brewed songs and very relatable tales of life and love.

Although the singing may not garner a Grammy, the catchy tunes were very well-performed, resulting in unsolicited, spontaneous audience participation on several occasions. Each song was met with thunderous applause, while the conversations between the three men had the standing-room-only audience rolling in the aisles.

The simple yet perfectly-constructed and adorned set is yet another fine example of the creative talents shared by the many SCA volunteers. For a couple of hours, I felt as if I were inside the ice fishing hut with the trio and was an active part of the story.

Tickets are still available for the five remaining shows. Performances begin at 8 p.m. on Feb. 16, 17 and 18 and 2 p.m. on the 19th at the Springville Center for the Arts. On Saturday, Feb. 25th at 7 p.m., the performers take the stage at the Holland Willows Restaurant in Holland, N.Y. for the final show.

Show and ticket information is available online at www.springvillearts.org, at 716-592-9038 or by visiting the Springville Center for the Arts at 37 North Buffalo St., Springville, N.Y.
