Springville Journal letter to the editor: Plans made for Relay For Life

The Relay for Life will be held Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Springville-Griffith Institute football field and track.
The schedule of events is as follows:
Setup will begin at 8 a.m., with registration’s opening at 10 a.m.
The opening ceremony will begin at noon, with Lydia Herren singing the national anthem. At 12:15, survivors’ names will be read off. The opening laps, including the survivors’ lap, caregiver lap and teams’ lap, will begin at 12:30.
A survivors’ reception will begin at 1 p.m. and the children’s area opens, as well.
Entertainment for the event includes Porcelain Wombat, from 1 p.m. – 2:45; Hintz of Thunder, from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.; the S-GI High School Jazz Band, from 4 p.m. – 5:15 and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. The WNY Fiddle Kids will entertain the crowd, from 5:30 – 6:30 and a DJ from TNT Sound System will provide music, starting at 10 p.m.
This year’s event features several theme laps, including a reverse lap, crazy hat lap and a pajama lap.
Other events include a children’s treasure hunt at 6 p.m. and reverse bingo at 8 p.m.
A yearly favorite, the basket auction, will run from 1 p.m. – 7 p.m., with winners’ names posted at 8:30.
A special luminary ceremony will take place at 9:30, followed by a “hope in the sky” lanterns launch, at 10 p.m.
The closing ceremony will begin at 12 a.m. At this time the campsite winners will be announced and there will be a remembrance hour.
Please plan to attend this very worthwhile and important local community event, to help raise much-needed funds, to benefit cancer research.
