Businesses thanked by West Valley Central School yearbook staff

I would like to start off by thanking all the business, in and around Springville, that have supported the West Valley yearbook’s annual ad campaign, this year and in years past.

I would also like to thank the businesses that are not able to support us, due to budget reasons, but whose staff and owners are polite and take the time out of their busy day to listen the yearbook students.

I have been taking a group of yearbook students around Springville for four years, now. My goal is not just to raise money for the yearbook through ads, but also to get the yearbook/business students to get out and see what local businesses are available, in their area. It gives the kids a great opportunity to talk to business people and understand the advertising process, firsthand.

In my business courses, I explain why shopping locally helps support the local economy. We also discuss advertising budgets through marketing and accounting class.

At the end of the day, when we meet for lunch at a local restaurant, the students discuss how the day went. The students talk about how they are going to tell their parents and family members about new businesses they have never been to before and would like to go back to.

These kids are your future customers. I understand that businesses get asked a lot for donations, but we aren’t trying to get donations for nothing and I understand that, in today’s economy, some businesses are just scraping by.

We are asking businesses to put an ad in a yearbook that will be around forever. How many of you still have those yearbooks from 10, 20 or more years ago?

It is nice to see which businesses supported the local school districts back then and still do today.
