Springville Journal letter to the editor: Cartoon was in poor taste
Monday April 15, 2013 | By:Duane Raffel |
I have never written a letter to an editor of any publication before, but observed a cartoon in the Springville Journal dated March 30, 2013 that I found, in my opinion, to be over-the-top and somewhat offensive, in what I would consider common decency.
On March 22, 2013, there was a terrible tragedy involving a 16-year-old boy and an infant in Springville. I donít need to go over this tragedy here, as I am sure most people in the Springville area are aware of the event and have strong feelings about what happened, on that terrible day.
Do we know the feelings of either family this event affected? Do we understand the young personís history, mental status, etc.?
I can only imagine the hurt of the babyís family and the stress the young manís family must be experiencing.
As a local publication, I would ask that the Journal consider more closely the feelings of people, in this small community, and reconsider what kind of a statement it is making, in a cartoon.
Hopefully, this is one personís opinion on this matter and not the view of everyone that works toward the publication of the Journal.
