Holiday light display triggers Christmas cheer, generosity in the village of Springville

Looking outside, we see that we are still embraced in a Western New York winter. The snow is falling but the Christmas lights are down. We started our lights to music decoration only four years ago. The cars coming by to watch our lights have dramatically improved over those years. This year, we wanted to help the community with our lights. We put a food donation box out to give to our local food pantry. With the help of our “Springville Journal” and Channel 2, the word got out. We received 408 food items, plus $2. The Trading Post came to pick up the donations and the total weight of the food was 238 pounds. Plus, we took fourth place in WGRZ’s decorating contest. There were over 120 entries, from Dunkirk to Niagara Falls.
We received some notes with the food donations to let us know where people came from to see our lights. Residents not only from Springville, East Concord and West Valley, but visitors as far north as North Tonawanda, made the drive to our community. Hopefully, next year we will grow bigger, as our goal is to beat Clark W. Griswold’s “25,000 twinkling lights.”
We would like to thank the following people: the “Springville Journal,” WGRZ-TV, the Springville Fire Company, the Springville Lions Club and the Springville Field and Stream for helping us get the word out of our plans; the Trading Post for helping those in need of a good meal; our friends and family who have helped us through the tough health times we have had; our neighbors who notice the increase of traffic on Mill Street. And thank you again to all of the people who stopped to share a little bit of Christmas with us and a meal with someone who couldn’t afford one this year. See you next year!
