SPRINGVILLE — Shamel Milling Company has been operating from its East Concord location, since 1935. Located at 9384 Genesee Road, the family-owned and operated livestock feed and farm supply store has been serving the Western New York community, for more than 70 years.

The business was originally owned by Howard Shamel, who opened the store in 1935. In 1946, Ruth and Rudy Engel of Hamburg purchased the store. The Engel family has been running the business, ever since. Son Bob Engel is now the owner and said he hopes to be serving the surrounding community, for many years to come.

“I’ve been doing this a very long time. I took over for my father in 1965,” Engel said. “This is a family-run business and we take a great deal of pride in providing high-quality products and personal customer service. We look forward to many more years of serving this great community.”

GRIND IT UP — Shamel Milling produces all of its livestock feed on its premises.
Shamel Milling produces all of its livestock feeds in its own mills. The owners also carry premium lines of Hubbard® Life Pet Food, Homestead® All-Natural Poultry Feeds, Hubbard Life Horse Feeds, McCauleys® Premium Equine Products and Crystalx®.

A CLEAN SWEEP — Pictured are some of the products the store offers its customers.
Shamel Milling offers a variety of supplies, to its customers, from garden supplies to grills. The Engels’ store is packed with products, that represent multiple levels of quality and affordability.

“We offer a little bit of everything, for our customers,” Engel said. “We specialize in our homegrown feed products, but we also have many other types of products. We do paint and paint hardware supplies, as well as gas grills. Our store has locally made products, lawn and garden supplies, muck boots, outer wear, wildlife food plot supplies and specialty feeds.”

Shamel Milling recently began offering online shopping, which can be found at its website, www.shamelmilling.com. This new feature allows customers to browse through the many products that Shamel offers, from the comfort of their own homes. Jason Engel, Bob Engel’s son, has been working on the new addition for the company.

“I let my son take care of the online shopping,” Engel said. “Jason has been helping us out a lot, the past three years or so. He’s been working a lot on the online shopping feature that we’ve added and its been a great addition. It gives customers more freedom, to shop for our products, so it’s been good for business.”
