Getting to know your neighbor: Carpet World sells more than carpet

SPRINGVILLE — With spring rapidly approaching, it’s almost time to start on the many improvement projects piling up at home, from the floor up. Whether that means installing new tile or throwing a rug over an old wood floor, Carpet World, located at 67 East Main St. in Springville, is the one-stop shop for the job.

For 21 years, Stacie and Joe Decker have owned Carpet World. When they first opened their doors, the couple knew they were in the perfect place for both themselves and the business.

When the Deckers first started in the business, carpet was a mainstay in the home. But over the years, the flooring industry has changed immensely and now Carpet World carries many types of flooring, including hardwood, cork, porcelain and all types of vinyl products.

Over the past 10 years, hardwood flooring has become more and more popular and no matter what variety consumers are looking for, Carpet World carries it. Solid hardwood is still the most common form, but engineered hardwood is popular for do-it-yourselfers. Engineered hardwood can be installed in areas where solid cannot and can be floated or glued, whereas solid must be nailed.

Along with hardwood, Carpet World carries many different varieties of tile. Whether it’s porcelain tile, ceramic or vinyl, Carpet World has it in numerous styles. A hardwood look can be duplicated in porcelain tile or vinyl plank.

Carpet has gone through a dramatic change, in the past few years, and Carpet World carries many kinds that are much more consumer-friendly. There are now carpets manufactured using partially recycled material. One carpet manufacturer offers an anti-microbial treatment using zinc and silver, that inhibits growth of mold and mildew. Carpet today is more durable, softer and more stain-resistant than ever before.

One unique service that Carpet World offers is custom area rugs. The store offers many different styles and patterns, such as Milliken and Dixie Home Prints. If the customer prefers something more homey, Carpet World carries Colonial Braids in several styles and fiber contents.

“Basically, we carry every type of flooring in the marketplace and offer installation services for every application,” said Decker.

Carpet World has also started catering directly to local contractors, by supplying materials at competitive prices, according to the owners.

“It’s been challenging, at times, to compete with the box stores, when it comes to maintaining and increasing out customer base,” said Decker. “But we’ve met that challenge head-on, understanding that price is a very important component in the decision to purchase a floor.”

But unlike the big-box stores, what puts Carpet World over the top is the owners’ friendly and knowledgeable customer service. Stacie and Joe Decker work directly with the customer, by guiding them to the right choices in flooring for their home, all the way through the installation process.

“It’s Joe and me whom you are dealing with, and if there are questions or concerns you come on, you come and talk directly to us,” said Decker.

When the Deckers took over Carpet World in 1993, the community welcomed them to the village.

“When we first opened our doors, people popped their heads in saying “welcome,” which you don’t get in bigger cities,” said Decker. “I want people to know how much we appreciate their patronage. Now that the weather has finally broken, come stop in and see all the new flooring products available for your next project or just stop in and say hi.”

Carpet World is open Monday-Thursday 9 a.m.- 5:30 p.m., Friday 9 a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
