Springville gears up for Oktoberfest

SPRINGVILLE — The Springville Area Chamber of Commerce is planning its seventh annual Oktoberfest event for Saturday, Sept. 29 from 2 – 10 p.m. at the Springville Volunteer Fireman’s Park off of Waverly Street.
The chamber added several locally-made items to this year’s menu, including a German bratwurst made by The Meat Shoppe and sauerkraut by Hard Pressed Farm. The cider and wines served are products of the local region, as well. The Oktoberfest beer selection will feature premium and seasonal brews, including Gordon Biersch’s signature Märzen, a dark Bavarian beer, which was served at the original Oktoberfest celebration in 1810. There will also be a few domestic favorites to round out the selection.
The Springville Jazz Orchestra, led by Bill Cocca, will play in the band hall, beginning at 2:30 p.m., followed by “The Frankfurters,” at 6.
The Southtowns German Car and Motorcycle Show will begin at 2 p.m., with several “people’s choice” prizes awarded. Other contests include the apfel dessert contest, German costume contest and a hot dog-eating contest, sponsored by Zweigle’s hot dogs. Full contest details can be found at www.springvillechamber.com or by calling 592-4746.
The event was sponsored by: Gernatt Asphalt, Gordon Biersch, Kaleidoscope Komputer, Rosina Food Products, Cheap Chollies, Community Bank, Emerling, InTomes Technical Services, Jim Merenick State Farm, R.A.
