The new year in Sardinia began with the welcoming of Councilman Douglas Morrell to the Sardinia Town Board. The town budget includes funds to have Drescher & Malecki LLP prepare a review of the 2011 finances and expenditures that occur in the supervisor’s office. The board also approved the annual review and audit of the court and clerk departments. The town clerk’s office will be audited on Jan. 23, while the court will have a formal audit prepared by Drescher & Malecki LLP.

Highway Superintendent Donald Hopkins was approved to advertise for bids for a new roller. Last June, the old one broke down and he had to borrow rollers from three different towns to try to finish the work. Town Attorney Linda Joseph will be looking into the legal procedures for abandoning Olin and Barry roads, as well as some property on the corner of Savage Road and Gales Court. Joseph also addressed a problem with the term life insurance. The policy has been changed to accept all firemen, regardless of age.

The planning board will be readdressing the town’s zoning ordinance regarding sign regulations to include comments from the town’s public hearing.

The youth board will now be reviewing the requests for the gymnasium. The group will act as supervisor with each endeavor.
