Erie County Clerk's office to implement electronic timekeeping system to reduce inefficiency, abuse

BUFFALO, NY - Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs will implement the County’s electronic “swipe card” system in all downtown locations of the Clerk’s Office effective Monday, Feb. 27. This new policy is in accordance with County Executive Mark Poloncarz’s Executive Order #003 issued on his first day in office.
“Although the Executive Order does not apply to independently elected officials in the County, I agree that this is not only a more efficient way to conduct business, but will also minimize any abuses or inaccuracies in time recording, “Clerk Jacobs stated.
As County Clerk, Jacobs wants to take the necessary steps to safeguard the accurate recording of all employees’ hours worked and leave time earned and used on a daily basis.
“The current system is frankly archaic, to manually log your time in and out, including for lunch, leaves room for error and it is time-consuming work for the supervisors,” says Jacobs. “As I have stated from my first day in office, I will always incorporate technology where I feel it would benefit the operation of the Clerk’s office.”
In the future, the Clerk’s office will also work to install the electronic swipe system in all satellite Auto Bureau locations. Employees in the County Clerk’s office, including Deputy Clerks and Supervisors are currently being trained extensively on the new system.
