Appointments and resignations discussed at West Valley Central School

WEST VALLEY — The West Valley Board of Education geared up for the spring sports season and fall school year, with several appointments, during its June 3 meeting.
Kris Fuller was named the head girls and boys varsity track coach for the upcoming season.
Dario Peynade was named as an unpaid girls and boys varsity track assistant, for the upcoming track season.
Tenure was granted to Nicole Falkner in the area of English, effective Sept. 3, as recommended by School Superintendent Eric Lawton.
Claire Watson from St. Bonaventure University will administer a 40-minute survey to the school’s third and fourth graders. This survey will focus on self perception, nutrition and physical activity, for children in rural communities. Watson completed the instruction review board process with Walden University and St. Bonaventure. She earned a Ph.D. in public health from Walden University.
Instructor Anne Williams will retire from teaching, effective June 30.
In other matters:
– A memorandum of agreement will provide a one-time change in work hours, to accommodate parent-teacher conferences on Nov. 14. The work day will take place from 11:55 a.m. – 7 p.m.
– The girls basketball team submitted a facilities use request for the gym. The team will use the gym on Wednesdays, on July 3 – Aug. 21 from 4 – 6 p.m.
– The West Valley Central School calendar was amended for the 2013-14 year.
The next WVCS Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 25 at 7 p.m. in the school’s library.
