Sardinia board honors members at meeting
Thursday December 22, 2011 | By:Ann Mangan

The Sardinia Town Board honored board members at its Dec. 8 meeting. Norman Uhteg was given a certificate recognizing his service to the town and community. Uhteg will not be a member of the town board in the upcoming year.
Acknowledged by the county was David Montgomery for emergency management in recognition for commitment and support for those hit by flooding from hurricane Irene and tropical storm Lee.
A public hearing is scheduled for Thursday evening, Jan. 12, at 6 o’clock to address an amendment to the town’s zoning ordinance regarding agricultural or horticultural selling purposes.
The amendment states that any sign, wording, logo, advertisement or any other representation that calls attention to a business that sells or promotes seasonal agricultural or horticultural products or services may use up to two temporary signs with the dimensions of 3 feet high by 4 feet wide.
Permits can be obtained from the code enforcement officer. The signs may be up for a maximum of eight months from the date issued. People who want larger signs can ask for a variance from the zoning board of appeals.
“Safety is the biggest concern,” said Supervisor Mary Hannon.
It was approved that Councilmen Dan Miller, Montgomery and newly-elected Douglas Morrell attend a training seminar in Rochester from Jan. 4 - 6 at the cost of $500 per person.

• The firemen are in the process of buying a new fire truck at the approximate cost of $202,843, which has not yet been finalized.
• Food for All Program (food stamps) will only be coming one day each month from March through May next year, due to lack of response this year.
• Sardinia Youth Winter Recreation party will be Saturday, Dec. 7 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the community center. Santa will be visiting.
• Montgomery and Miller attended the Empire Energy Forum with several speakers discussing fracking. This forum was put on by the oil/gas industry.
Miller said it was “one sided, and we can’t really regulate what they do with drilling, but can regulate well site and local roads.”
The next Sardinia Town Board meeting will be held on Jan. 12 at 6:30 p.m.
